THE UNIVERSITY OF ST ANDREWS
Refurbishment and upgrade of services in rooftop plant rooms
Following a successful competitive tender bid, we were appointed to carry out the refurbishment and upgrade of services in two roof top plant rooms, with two large cold water storage tanks which supply the University building below. Each room fall safe system was also refurbished with a mastic asphalt tanking system installed. All windows and doors were also renewed, along with the external cladding which was replaced with a non-combustible material.
In this project the biggest challenge was the design change of the tanks, resulting in the pipe outlet coming from the side rather than the base of the tank. This had a knock-on effect to many aspects of the design which were resolved after several meetings and discussions over time. We coordinated with the University to agree a programme of service isolations, liaising closely with them to ensure any disruption to building users was minimised. The project team worked out of hours when required.
Our client was delighted with our project management and the finished product.
