Role and Responsibilities

As Estimating Manager, Calder is responsible for managing the tender process from receipt of enquiry or tender invitation, to bid submission, including allocating workload within the department, breaking down Bills of Quantities/Descriptions of Works or Drawings and Specification enquiries for sub-contractors and suppliers and along with pricing of in-house trades, collating all information on time for submission.

Background

Calder has worked in the Construction Industry for over 40 years. After starting his career at Doig & Smith in 1975, he has worked for both Major Contractors and SME’s, gaining invaluable experience within Estimating and Business Development. Calder worked for Morris & Spottiswood for 17 Years (1990-2007) where he progressed to Director level, before moving on to part-own his own Company until the recession hit in 2014.

Experience and Qualifications

Calder is experienced in all aspects of the Construction including, Tender Bid Management, Contract Procurement, Health & Safety Management, Project Delivery and Client Liaison.

Calder can work under pressure to tight timescales and with an attention to detail and problem-solving attitude. He was the main contact for the GHA Social Housing Refurbishment Framework Contract and led the Bid Team in preparing and winning the most profitable Contract for Morris & Spottiswood in their history (£24m per year for a six-year term). Calder has an ONC/HNC in Building and Builders Law.
